Man City make second signing: The deadline day done deals you might have missed

Deadline day is finally here, which means clubs across Europe are scrapping to get deals done before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal have completed perhaps the most high-profile signing of the month, luring Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona.

However, aside from Suarez, there have been plenty of moves you might have missed. But don’t worry – Squawka is here to help.

We’ve compiled a list of the done deals that may have slipped under your radar in the final few hours of the transfer window.

Jonny Otto

From: Atletico Madrid

To: Wolves

Fee: £18m

Jonny has settled quickly in England since joining Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid last summer, and the Midlands club has moved quickly to tie the Spaniard down on a permanent deal.

Strangely, Jonny didn’t play a single game for Atletico, moving to Wolves immediately after signing for the La Liga giants from Celta Vigo. The 24-year-old, who is now Wolves’ joint-record signing, will be aiming to show Atletico what they’re missing.

Sebastian Giovinco

From: Toronto

To: Al-Hilal

Fee: £1.5-2.5m

With 73 goals and 43 assists in 125 matches, Sebastian Giovinco is regarded as one of the best players in the history of Toronto and the entire MLS. The 32-year-old has taken the decision to spend the next part of his career in Saudi Arabia.

Giovinco scored 17 direct free-kicks in MLS, more than any other player in the history of the competition.

Ante Palaversa

From: Hajduk Split

To: Manchester City

Fee: Undisclosed (loaned back to Hajduk until summer 2020)

This time last year, Manchester City signed Aymeric Laporte to strengthen their bid for the Premier League title. There have been no high-profile arrivals through the door this time around, but the champions have still been recruiting.

Ante Palaversa, a promising 18-year-old from Croatian club Hajduk Split, has agreed to join City but has been immediately loaned back to Hajduk until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Scott Hogan

From: Aston Villa

To: Sheffield United

Fee: Loan

Expected to help Aston Villa’s push for promotion when he joined from Brentford in January 2017, Scott Hogan’s time in the Midlands hasn’t exactly gone to plan. He has scored just seven Championship goals for Villa in two years.

The striker now has the chance to aid another side’s Premier League dream, signing for third-placed Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season.

Antonio Barreca

From: Monaco

To: Newcastle United

Fee: Loan (with £9m option to buy)

Newcastle have certainly been more busy than many expected. Full-back Antonio Barreca, who has made seven Ligue 1 appearances at left-back for Monaco this season, has joined on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The Magpies have an option to sign the 23-year-old permanently for £9 million if Barreca settles in the Premier League.

Tyrone Mings

From: Bournemouth

To: Aston Villa

Fee: Loan (with option to buy)

Within a month of joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2015, Tyrone Mings suffered a serious knee injury. Since his return he has struggled to break into the first-team, and Eddie Howe has finally allowed the defender to leave on loan.

It is believed Aston Villa fought off competition from other Championship clubs to sign Mings on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy in the summer.

Kostas Mitroglou

From: Marseille

To: Galatasaray

Fee: Loan

A deadline day signing all those years ago for Fulham during Felix Magath’s reign, the Greece international is on the move again, this time joining Galatasaray from Marseille on a loan move for the remainder of the season.

Emile Smith Rowe

From: Arsenal

To: RB Leipzig

Fee: Loan

The promising teenager has impressed in the Europa League this season, but now Arsenal fans will turn their attention to the Bundesliga as the talented tyro has followed in the footsteps of many of his young compatriots by relocating to Germany.

Arsenal already have Reiss Nelson out on loan with Hoffenheim so fans will be buoyed by the news of Smith Rowe’s latest move.

Peter Crouch

From: Stoke

To: Burnley

Fee: Undisclosed fee

Crouch is a Premier League legend, and at 38-years-old the mountainous striker has relocated to Turf Moor, to join up with Sean Dyche in the Clarets’ quest to beat the drop and retain their top-flight status.

Maryan Shved

From: Karpaty Lviv

To: Celtic

Fee: Undisclosed fee

The 21-year-old Ukrainian winger comes to Glasgow with a lot of promise, having joined the Sevilla youth system in 2015 after impressing in his homeland.

It did not quite work out at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and Shved went back to Karpaty Lviv, but the prodigiously talented wide man has continued to impress and has now joined the books at Celtic, though he will remain with Karpaty Lviv on-loan until the end of the season.

Wilfried Bony

From: Swansea

To: Al-Arabi Sports Club

Fee: Loan

Having just turned 30 you would have thought Bony would be completely tearing up the Championship this season, but it hasn’t quite worked out for the man Man City once paid £25m for, and he has now joined Al-Arabi Sports Club on-loan for the rest of the season.

Emerson

From: Atletico Mineiro

To: Barcelona

Fee: £10.5m

Barcelona have signed a player they hope will be able to emulate his compatriot Dani Alves, as the Brazilian right-back has been likened, in his homeland, to the Barca legend.

The Catalan club have parted with £10.5m for his services and the 20-year-old will officially join the club in the summer.

Shinji Kagawa

From: Borussia Dortmund

To: Besiktas

Fee: Loan

The Japanese playmaker has found playing time scarce with the Ruhr district giants this season and has opted to try his luck and pit his wits in the Turkish Super Lig with sixth-placed Besiktas.

Liam Ridgewell

From: Free agent

To: Hull City

Fee: Free

The veteran full-back terminated his Portland Timbers contract by mutual consent earlier this month and he has now joined the books with Hull City, joining the club on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

Luca Pellegrini

From: Roma

To: Cagliari

Fee: Loan

The talented teenager is highly thought of in the Italian capital and will now make his first venture away from the club, taking the plunge on a temporary switch away from the Stadio Olimpico and to the Sardegna Arena with Cagliari until the end of the season.

Reece Oxford

From: West Ham

To: Augsburg

Fee: Loan

It hasn’t quite worked out for Oxford in east London and after only making fleeting cup appearances this season, the 20-year-old has returned to Germany for his third stint on-loan in the Bundesliga, this time with Augsburg.

Jeremy Toljan

From: Borussia Dortmund

To: Celtic

Fee: Loan

This is quite the coup for Celtic, bringing in the exceptionally gifted German right-back for the rest of the season. Alongside Timothy Weah, Brendan Rodgers has now got his hands of two players from elite European clubs.

Yannick Bolasie

From: Everton

To: Anderlecht

Fee: Loan

Quite a fall from grace for Bolasie; once tipped to become Everton’s talisman for years to come, the explosive winger has been hampered by injuries and has struggled immensely to impress Marco Silva. He will be hoping a short foray in Belgian football with Anderlecht will revitalise his career.

Tom Carroll

From: Swansea

To: Aston Villa

Fee: Loan

A fantastic passer of the ball, Dean Smith has managed to secure the former Spurs man on a temporary basis, but will have the option to make his move permanent in the summer. Carroll was used sporadically this season in Wales, but possesses all the attributes of a box-to-box midfielder.

Pele

From: Monaco

To: Nottingham Forest

Fee: Loan

If he is even a fraction as good as his namesake then Nottingham Forest will have some player in their squad. The 27-year-old has been on the books of some massive clubs across his career including AC Milan and Benfica, so he will bring some much needed European experience to Martin O’Neill’s side.
